Day Schooling, Boarding, Homeschooling —Which One is Best for Your Child

Every parent wants to ensure that their children get only the best possible education. Regardless of their means, parents research for the best facilities and educational opportunities in the best schools for their children who are in need of right guidance. But it is rarely easy to decide which the best schooling option for the child is, particularly it comes to choosing between day schooling, boarding, and homeschooling. Let's take a look at the pros and cons of each to let you decide which one is the best for your child:

Day Schools

Day schooling is a particularly better option it comes to children making their first forays into the rigours of formal education. Toddlers in the ages between two and five are better enrolled in daytime nursery schools as they take time getting used to the routine that schools demand and at the same time also need time and attention from their parents which is easily divided into the school and non-school time with a day school.

But even for children of other age groups, day schools bring the advantage of a fixed time during which the routine of the school takes over their life, while the rest of the day is theirs to plan. Many experts also see this as a disadvantage of the day school routine as it leads many children to squander the rest of their day and not devote enough time to a fixed routine which in turn affects their subsequent performance in the class.

Boarding School

Boarding schools have often been considered to be the best option for children whose parents are unable to give them enough attention and time or they are living in an area where the opportunities for quality education are redundant. Boarding schools have always been appreciated for giving maximum attention to the requirements and overall development of each child with smaller class size and for their ability to let their students grow up into more responsible and disciplined persons. Adequate balance is provided in the school routine for academics, sports, and other co-curricular activities to occupy the child throughout the day.

Boarding schools are considered to be at a disadvantage when it comes to the involvement of the parents in the child's upbringing. While periodic progress reports of children might be sent to parents, they do not get daily access to their children and vice versa. There might also be separation anxiety for some children, particularly in the young age cohorts. On the financial front too, boarding schools are more expensive as a schooling option.

Home Schooling

Homeschooling has turned out to be a popular method for schooling among an increasing number of parents who think that the rigours of regular school life are too taxing for their child. Homeschooling is in fact preferred for the flexibility it offers in terms of education and parents can customize the curriculum to suit the individual needs of their child. There is also the flexibility of schedule in homeschooling which allows parents and their children to devote a mutually agreed time to lessons while still making time for other activities. The knowledge gained in homeschooling draws much from real life experiences while also offering the of textbook learning without the driving sense of competition seen in schools.

Detractors of homeschooling list the isolation of the child as one of the biggest negatives. Lack of peers to share learning with may affect the education of a child. At the same time, homeschooling can never match up to the resources that actual school experience provides, like laboratories and other infrastructure.

Ultimately, the decision on which type of schooling is the best for your child depends on your individual preferences and the suitability of a given experience for your child. Make your decision keeping in mind that at the end of it all, it is your child who should benefit from it all and turn into a confident, aware and responsible individual, ready to take on the challenges of the world.
